Job summary

Northern Grampians Shire Council in St Arnaud is seeking a part-time Recreation and Leisure Officer to support aquatic programs and daily facility operations. You will supervise staff, ensure water safety, and provide excellent customer service across multiple pools.

The role requires hands-on leadership, roster management and strong administrative skills to maintain safety and program delivery at St Arnaud and nearby facilities.

Qualifications

• Current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recognised resuscitation certification.
• Sound knowledge of pool supervision, water safety, water education, first aid, resuscitation and rescue techniques and public safety requirements.
• Knowledge and appreciation of relevant codes of practice, legislative requirements and health and safety regulations relating to aquatic facility operations.
• Proficiency in the application of water treatment.
• The ability to accurately interpret and apply the Victorian Pool Operators Handbook and Guide to Safe Pool Operations.
• An understanding of the requirements for the safe management and operation of a public swimming facility.

Responsibilities

• Help ensure our aquatic programs operate smoothly, efficiently and within budget.
• Provide friendly, responsive and professional customer service to patrons and user groups.
• Supervise pool patrons and user groups, ensuring high standards of water safety are maintained.
• Undertake Learn to Swim activities and programs as rostered.
• Take on Duty Manager responsibilities as rostered.
• Provide customer and administrative support, including facility bookings and accounts payable and receivable.
• Assist with the operation and maintenance of pool plant and equipment across the Stawell and St Arnaud facilities.
• Help ensure pool water quality and treatment systems meet required safety and operational standards.
• Support the safe and compliant operation of change rooms, toilets, showers and other facility areas.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation across the facilities.
• Assist with identifying and managing health and safety risks, including accurately recording and reporting incidents and customer complaints.
• Assist with training and developing employees to ensure they understand relevant procedures, regulations and pool water treatment requirements.
• Supervise, support and coach facility employees to achieve organisational goals and provide a high standard of service.
• Undertake other duties within your skills, competence and training.
