Job summary

Northern Grampians Shire Council is seeking an experienced Aquatic Facilities Maintenance Officer to support the safe and compliant operation of our aquatic facilities. The role focuses on plant operation, water quality, maintenance schedules and minor repairs, based at Stawell Sports and Aquatic Centre with seasonal duties at St Arnaud Outdoor Pool.

Aquatic Facilities Maintenance Officer

We are seeking an experienced and proactiveAquatic Facilities Maintenance Officerto join our Leisure and Recreation Team and support the safe, reliable and compliant operation of Council's aquatic facilities. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for aquatic plant operations, water quality management, facility presentation, preventative maintenance and minor repairs. You will play an important role in ensuring our facilities remain safe, clean, welcoming and well maintained for our community. The position is primarily based at theStawell Sports and Aquatic Centre (SSAC)and provides seasonal operational support to theSt Arnaud Outdoor Pool.

About the role

As the Aquatic Facilities Maintenance Officer, you will:

  • Monitor, inspect and assist with the operation and maintenance of aquatic plant, equipment and associated building infrastructure.
  • Monitor and maintain water quality in accordance with relevant standards, procedures and compliance requirements.
  • Undertake routine inspections, preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Identify operational and maintenance issues and take proactive steps to resolve them before specialist contractor involvement is required.
  • Develop and maintain operating procedures, maintenance schedules and relevant operational documentation.
  • Maintain plant rooms in a safe, clean and organised condition.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance activities with the Building Maintenance Team and external contractors.
  • Assist with contractor coordination, monitor works and report significant maintenance issues.
  • Purchase approved maintenance materials, cleaning consumables and minor equipment in accordance with Council policies and delegated financial authority.
  • Undertake cleaning and presentation duties across aquatic areas, public amenities, recreation spaces and staff facilities.
  • Monitor and replenish facility consumables.
  • Support equipment set-up, inspections, events and seasonal operational requirements.
  • Provide seasonal support to the St Arnaud Outdoor Pool.
  • Assist with staff induction, training and the implementation of operational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to preventative maintenance planning and continuous improvement.
  • Provide professional and courteous assistance to patrons, staff, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Undertake other duties within the limits of your skills, competence and training.
About you

We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable and proactive, with a strong understanding of facility maintenance and aquatic operations.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in aquatic facility operations, plant maintenance, building maintenance or a related field.
  • Knowledge of aquatic plant and water treatment systems.
  • An understanding of water quality monitoring and relevant health, safety and compliance requirements.
  • Practical skills in preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
  • The ability to identify faults and operational issues and take appropriate action.
  • Experience working with contractors and external service providers.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • A commitment to workplace health and safety, including the safe handling, storage and use of pool chemicals.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A strong commitment to maintaining clean, safe and welcoming community facilities.

Relevant qualifications, licences, certificates or experience in aquatic operations, pool plant management, water treatment, maintenance, plumbing, electrical, mechanical or a related trade will be highly regarded.
