Job summary

Cumberland City Council in NSW is seeking a casual Aqua Aerobics Instructor to plan and deliver engaging water-based fitness classes at our aquatic centres.

The role requires current Aqua Fitness Instructor Certification, WWCC, First Aid and CPR, with weekend penalties and ongoing development opportunities in a supportive municipal setting.

Qualifications

• Current Aqua Fitness Instructor Certification.
• Current Working with Children Check (WWCC).
• Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.
• Current HLTAID009 Provide CPR.
• Experience delivering group fitness classes, ideally in an aquatic setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt exercise to participants with different abilities.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver safe aquatic fitness classes that are inclusive for all participants.
• Deliver sessions tailored to varying ages and abilities while ensuring safety.
• Contribute to a positive, engaging water-based fitness experience for the community.

Job description

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Council’s Aquatic and Leisure department sits within the Assets, Capital and Facilities business unit that forms part of the City Services directorate that focuses on and is responsible for the beautification of the Cumberland LGA. Cumberland City Council owns and operates five (5) Aquatic and Leisure Centres across the LGA which provide aquatic, leisure and wellness programs and services to our community.

In contributing to the overarching vision, the Aqua Aerobics Instructor is responsible for planning and delivering safe, inclusive and engaging aquatic fitness classes for participants of varying ages and abilities. This role supports Cumberland Council’s mission to foster an active, healthy and connected community through safe and accessible leisure and wellness programs. Aqua Aerobics classes aim to improve cardiovascular health, mobility, strength and overall wellbeing in a fun, low-impact water-based environment tailored to all fitness levels and abilities.

The successful applicant will require:

• Current Aqua Fitness Instructor Certification
• Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
• Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
• Current HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Experience delivering group fitness classes, ideally in an aquatic setting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to adapt exercise to participants with different physical abilities or needs

About this role:

• Casual position
• Located at Council's Aquatic Centres, with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information:The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

• Grade 8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $40.90 to $50.10 per hour (plus casual loading), plus 12% superannuation
• Weekend penalty ratesapply in accordance with the Local Government Award
• The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

What you'll need to have for this role:

• The right to live and work in Australia
• Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
• Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
