Job summary

The Commonwealth agency is seeking an experienced APS6 WHS Case Manager in Canberra to own a diverse portfolio of WHS, injury management and rehabilitation matters, working with employees, managers, health professionals and external providers.

You will deliver specialist advice, support WHS programs and contribute to a positive safety and wellbeing culture; role offers hands-on case management and opportunities to identify improvements within a complex environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in WHS and injury management within a complex or APS‑level environment.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and liaison with health professionals, managers and external providers.
• Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist WHS, injury management, rehabilitation and return-to-work case management.
• Advise employees and managers on WHS compliance and wellbeing programs.
• Support governance, reporting and continuous improvement of safety initiatives.
• Conduct WHS risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal teams and external service providers.

The Opportunity

As the APS6 WHS Case Manager, you will take ownership of a diverse portfolio of WHS, injury management and rehabilitation matters, working closely with employees, managers, health professionals and external providers. You will have the opportunity to provide practical advice, influence positive outcomes and contribute to initiatives that strengthen the organisation’s safety and wellbeing culture.
For someone who enjoys the balance of hands‑on case management, stakeholder engagement and broader WHS work, this role offers variety and the opportunity to contribute beyond individual cases. You will also have scope to identify improvements, support WHS programs and contribute to a positive employee experience across the organisation.

The Role

You will provide specialist advice and case management support across WHS, injury management, rehabilitation and return‑to‑work matters, while contributing to broader workplace safety and wellbeing initiatives.

• Manage work health and safety, injury management and rehabilitation cases to support timely, effective and sustainable return‑to‑work outcomes
• Provide specialist WHS and wellbeing advice to employees and managers, making sure legislative requirements and agency policies are met
• Support the delivery of the agency’s WHS and wellbeing programs and initiatives that build a positive safety culture
• Carry out WHS risk management and assurance activities, including incident reporting, investigations, workplace assessments and corrective actions
• Support governance, compliance and reporting, including WHS reporting, case management records, policy implementation and continuous improvement
• Build strong working relationships with employees, managers, health practitioners, rehabilitation providers, Comcare and other service providers

The Ideal Person

Ideally, you will bring experience across both WHS and injury management/case management, preferably within the APS or a similarly complex environment. However, the organisation is open to candidates with strong experience in either area.

You may have significant injury management, rehabilitation and return‑to‑work experience, including experience liaising with Comcare, or a strong WHS background supported by a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41419).

You will be a confident and empathetic communicator with sound judgement, strong stakeholder skills and the ability to manage sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.

Salary

• $104k – $115k + 15.4% Super
• 6‑to‑12‑month non‑ongoing contract
• Canberra‑based with hybrid working arrangements available
• Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance are required
