• applying sound judgement and expertise to accurately research, interpret and apply legislation and policy to inform findings and decision making
• drafting decision documents, including written reasons for decisions, that are consistent with good administrative law decision-making principles
• applying clear communication with providers and students and providing them with the opportunity to ask questions about ASQA’s decisions in a way that supports them to understand what is required
• positively representing ASQA through day-to-day relationships with stakeholders that are based on a foundation of mutual respect and focused on delivering the most effective outcome for the regulatory activity.

Mandatory

• the successful applicant will be required to undergo employment checks and/or obtain a baseline security clearance (if they do not already hold a clearance)

• requirement to travel which may involve overnight stays

Desirable

• understanding of the principles of good regulatory practice or experience working in the vocational education and training sector in Australia with an understanding of the regulatory framework
• willingness to obtain the qualifications required of auditors as outlined in the Standards for VET Regulators 2015
• willingness to obtain Certificate IV in Government (Investigations).

• demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively present information to different audiences, including providers and Tribunals
• demonstrated commitment in applying self and supporting team members with effective outcomes, understanding the agency wide priorities and key risks.

Eligibility to apply

• Under Section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian Citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing, to the contrary.
• The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks including a Federal Police Check and obtain a minimum Baseline Security Clearance (if they do not already hold a clearance).

This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool. The merit pool may be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles within ASQA or across the APS over the next 18 months.
