Job summary

Melbourne North Truck Centre is offering a four-year apprenticeship to become a Heavy Vehicle Technician, with a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology. You’ll learn in our workshop, diagnose faults, service and repair heavy trucks, including Kenworth and DAF models, while gaining hands-on experience with experienced technicians.

Starting with Year 11 and a keen interest in trucks, you’ll benefit from above‑award wages, tool allowance, PPE, overtime, and ongoing career

• Good mechanical aptitude and an interest in trucks, cars or machinery.
• Strong attention to detail.
• A hands-on approach to problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Learn in the workshop and gain real experience.
• Develop skills to diagnose faults and service heavy vehicles.
• Work on diesel engines, electrical systems and braking systems.
• Support pre-delivery checks and repairs as part of the apprenticeship.

Melbourne North Truck Centre is Australia’s newest Kenworth and DAF dealership, currently operating from Hume Highway in Somerton while we look ahead to our new state-of-the-art dealership in Mickleham.

As a full-service Kenworth and DAF dealership, our team supports new truck sales, parts and mechanical servicing across Melbourne’s north and the Ballarat territory.

What your apprenticeship will look like

This is a hands-on four-year apprenticeship, where you’ll work towards your Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology while learning alongside experienced technicians in our workshop.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll develop the skills to:

• Diagnose faults using modern diagnostic equipment
• Service, inspect and repair heavy vehicles
• Work on diesel engines, electrical systems and braking systems
• Carry out component repairs and overhauls
• Develop your knowledge of Kenworth and DAF trucks
• Build the practical skills needed to become a qualified Heavy Vehicle Technician

You won’t just be watching from the sidelines. You’ll be learning in the workshop, gaining real experience and building the skills for a long-term career in the transport industry.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• Successfully completed Year 11
• Good mechanical aptitude and an interest in trucks, cars or machinery
• Strong attention to detail
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn
• A hands-on approach to problem solving
