Job summary

Thales in Sydney offers an apprenticeship on Garden Island to commence and complete a registered Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction, learning to assist a team with docking, vessel handling, and ship repair.

You’ll gain hands-on skills, safety training, and exposure to defence maritime projects, with mentors and peers in a diverse, inclusive workplace.

Our Team

Our Above Water Systems team provides engineering & maintenance services to Royal Australian Navy vessels and commercial ships. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our defence partners. Your Role

Located in Sydney at Woolloomooloo's Garden Island, on Gadigal land your role purpose is to commence and complete a registered apprenticeship in Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction. You will learn to perform a range of work including:

• Assisting a team in docking and undocking various types of vessels
• Set up of docking cradle for various types of vessels, both large and small
• All aspects of ship repair and maintenance

Your Experience

As a first-year apprentice, we'll expect you to bring the following skills and behaviours:

• Interest in maritime or previously have worked around ships/boats
• Sound literacy, numeracy and basic computer skills
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, at Heights and in Confined Spaces
