Job summary

Kempsey Shire Council is offering an Apprenticeship for an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter within our Water and Sewer Maintenance Team. You will gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade and learn from experienced Mechanical Fitters to become a qualified tradesperson.

Job description

Council is seeking a motivated and enthusiasticApprentice Mechanical Fitterto join our Water and Sewer Maintenance Team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience while completing aCertificate III in Engineering â Mechanical Trade. You’ll learn from experienced Mechanical Fitters and develop the practical and theoretical skills needed to become a qualified Mechanical Fitter, while contributing to essential water and wastewater services for the Kempsey Shire community.

As part of the Water and Sewer team, you’ll assist with the servicing, maintenance and repair of Council’s water supply, sewer treatment and recycled water treatment assets. You’ll gain valuable experience working with mechanical systems and equipment in an industry where your skills will make a real difference to the community and environment.

What you’ll do

As an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter, you will:

• Participate in structured on-the-job training and formal coursework.
• Work towards and complete aCertificate III in Engineering â Mechanical Tradethrough a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
• Complete all required assessments and coursework as part of your apprenticeship.
• Apply your developing skills while assisting qualified Mechanical Fitters with the servicing, maintenance and repair of Council’s water and wastewater assets.
• Learn about mechanical systems, equipment and maintenance practices.
• Participate in internal training and development relevant to the role and work environment.
• Assist with maintaining equipment, tools and work areas in a safe, clean and tidy condition.
• Identify potential hazards and contribute to maintaining a safe workplace.
• Develop your skills and knowledge while contributing to essential services for the local community.

About You:

We’re looking for someone who ishands-on, reliable, safety-conscious and genuinely keen to learn.

You don’t need to be a qualified tradesperson â this is an apprenticeship designed to help you build the skills and knowledge you need for a successful career as a Mechanical Fitter.

You will ideally have:

• CompletedYear 10, with Year 12 desirable.
• Achieved suitable educational standards inMathematics and Science. Please provide a transcript of your educational studies with your application.
• A genuine interest in mechanical trades, the water and sewer industry, environmental sustainability and public health.
• An eagerness to learn about mechanical systems and equipment. Basic knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems will be an advantage.
• The ability to successfully complete both the theory and practical components of the apprenticeship.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
• A proactive approach and willingness to take initiative.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, community members and other stakeholders.
• A positive attitude and the ability to contribute to a supportive team environment.
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• A willingness to work in a variety of environments and adapt to different tasks.
• A genuine interest in public service and making a positive contribution to the local community.
• A commitment to completing yourCertificate III in Engineering â Mechanical Tradeand participating in ongoing training and development.

Essential requirements

You will also need:

• A currentDriver Licence, or willingness to obtain and maintain one.
• AGeneral Construction Induction Card (White Card), or willingness to obtain one.
• CurrentTetanus, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B immunisations, or willingness to obtain them
