Job summary

Banana Shire Council in Central Queensland offers an apprenticeship for a trainee Heavy Vehicle Mechanic. You will learn to service and repair council plant and equipment, following manufacturer specs and our preventative maintenance program.

The role includes training through the approved plan, maintaining training records, and assisting senior staff while developing practical skills in repairs, diagnostics and field service, with opportunities to progress in a busy regional workshop.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology is mandatory.
• Year 10 English and Maths pass is required.
• Holder of a current Class C manual driver’s licence is required.
• Construction Induction White Card is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Undertake general maintenance and repairs on plant and equipment per manufacturer’s specs and Council’s preventive maintenance program.
• Maintain a daily diary of completed tasks.
• Complete training as required by the role and apprenticeship.
• Respond to enquiries from internal and external customers promptly and professionally.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical problems.
• Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills and training.
