Job summary
Queensland Fire & Emergency Services – Cairns is offering a four-year heavy vehicle apprenticeship in our Fleet Maintenance workshops. You will learn and assist with the repair and maintenance of light and heavy vehicles, under the supervision of qualified tradespeople, including associated equipment to ensure NHVR compliance and readiness.

Qualifications
- Valid driver's licence and familiarity with manual and automatic transmissions.
- Eligibility for enrolment or progression towards Heavy Vehicle Mechanic trade certificate.
- Commitment to a four year apprenticeship and nationally recognised qualification.
Responsibilities
- Learn and assist with repair, maintenance and installation of light and heavy vehicles.
- Diagnose potential faults, including electrical issues, under supervision.
- Communicate with Workshop Supervisor and senior mechanics for safe solutions.
- Safely use hand and specialised tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Participate in ongoing manufacturer and in-house training to maintain competencies.
