Job summary

Hydro Tasmania is offering a Line Worker Apprentice role on Flinders Island, starting February 2027. You’ll earn while you learn and gain a nationally recognised trade qualification, working with experienced crews on electrical distribution networks.

This four-year program provides structured on-the-job training and study, with opportunities across Hydro Tasmania’s network and a focus on safety, practical skills and long-term career development in renewable energy.

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for an Australian driver licence.
  • Interest in electrical distribution networks and outdoor field work.
  • Willingness to commit to a four-year apprenticeship starting February 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Gain skills through structured on-the-job training and study.
  • Assist with construction, maintenance and repair of overhead/underground networks.
  • Develop safety and problem-solving capabilities in real-world settings.
  • Work outdoors across diverse environments and weather conditions.
  • Learn to operate industry tools, equipment and technology.
  • Contribute to delivering reliable electricity to communities on Flinders Island.

Dependent on age; Base Salary from $57,840 (Junior) or $77,120 (Adult) plus Super, potential area allowances and yearly progression.

About The Role

Starting in February 2027, our 4-year apprenticeship program will provide the skills, experience and qualifications needed to become a qualified Line worker.

Throughout Your Apprenticeship, You’ll
  • Gain BIG skills through structured on-the-job training and study.
  • Learn from experienced field crews working across Hydro Tasmania's distribution network.
  • Assist with the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground network assets.
  • Develop strong technical, safety and problem-solving skills.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of environments and weather conditions.
  • Build experience using industry-leading tools, equipment and technology.
  • Help deliver safe and reliable electricity to homes, businesses and communities across Flinders Island.
