NEPEAN Engineering in Prestons, NSW is seeking a motivated 3rd Year Apprentice Fitter Machinist to focus your trade career on machining within a supportive workshop environment.

You'll gain hands-on experience operating manual lathes and milling machines, supporting CNC setup, reading drawings, measuring to specifications, and completing finishing operations. You will also assist with mechanical fitting, assembly and routine maintenance as required.

Are you a current 3rd year Apprentice Fitter Machinist who wants to make machining the main focus of your trade career? NEPEAN Engineering is seeking a motivated apprentice to join our Prestons, NSW facility, where you’ll build practical capability across manual and CNC machining while continuing to develop complementary mechanical fitting skills.

About the opportunity

This opportunity is suited to an apprentice who has completed the early stages of a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade and is keen to develop as a machinist. Your day-to-day work will centre on producing and finishing components using manual and CNC machinery, supported by mechanical fitting, assembly and general workshop duties as required.

You’ll gain hands-on exposure to CNC machine operation, manual lathes and milling machines, job setup, tooling, measuring and inspection, and machining components to drawing specifications and required tolerances. You’ll also assist with mechanical fitting, component assembly, maintenance support and other workshop activities.

What you’ll be doing and developing

• Operating manual lathes and milling machines to manufacture and modify components.
• Supporting CNC machine setup and operation, including loading jobs, selecting tools and monitoring machining cycles.
• Reading engineering drawings, work instructions and technical specifications.
• Measuring, marking out and inspecting components using precision measuring equipment.
• Producing components accurately to specified dimensions, tolerances and quality requirements.
• Completing deburring, grinding and finishing work on machined parts.
• Assisting with mechanical fitting, component assembly, maintenance and repair duties when required.
• Maintaining a safe, clean and organised work area while working reliably as part of the workshop team.
