Job summary

Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking a Contract Finance Analyst to join a hands-on finance team in Melbourne. This 3‑month contract role focuses on month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset accounting, and financial controls.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or related discipline.
• Experience in financial accounting, management accounting or a finance support role.
• Strong understanding of month-end processes, journals, accruals and reconciliations.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel and ERP experience (JDE, SAP; Power BI exposure preferred).
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end close activities including journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate outstanding items.
• Manage fixed asset accounting: additions, transfers, disposals, depreciation and register maintenance.

What You’ll Do

• Support month‑end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, account analysis and reporting.
• Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, investigate outstanding items and assist with timely resolution.
• Manage fixed asset accounting activities, including additions, transfers, disposals, depreciation and register maintenance.
• Assist with audit requirements, financial controls, compliance activities and reporting obligations.
• Partner with operational stakeholders to provide financial support, respond to queries and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline.
• Experience in financial accounting, management accounting or a finance support role, preferably within a large or complex organization.
• Strong understanding of month‑end processes, journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems; JDE, SAP and Power BI exposure will be highly regarded.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities within tight reporting deadlines.
