Job summary

St John of God Social Outreach in Bunbury, WA, is seeking an experienced Alcohol and Drug Counsellor to provide assessment, counselling and follow-up support for substances use issues. Roles available as permanent full-time and part-time positions.

We require a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Nursing, OT, Psychology or Counselling and eligibility for relevant professional membership, with strong commitment to harm minimisation and teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Counselling with eligibility for membership of the relevant professional organisation.
• Counselling experience in drug and alcohol and/or mental health settings is required.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and independently with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments and develop individualised treatment plans with clients.
• Provide evidence-based counselling and therapeutic interventions for substance use issues.
• Deliver brief interventions, planned treatment and ongoing follow-up support.
• Apply harm minimisation in client care.
• Utilise motivational interviewing and other contemporary therapies.
• Provide crisis intervention and respond to risk and complex needs.
• Refer clients to health and community providers and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate client records and documentation.
