Job summary

Kestrel Eight is seeking an Ansible Automation Platform Architect to set automation strategy and standards for an Australian Government agency. The role is based in Canberra with a hybrid work setup and runs for 12 months from December 1, 2026. Canberra is strongly preferred.

You will align automation processes, tools and strategy with the agency's business processes and IT systems, and establish automation policies and frameworks across the agency, under the client’s Platform Owner guidance.

Responsibilities

• Develop technology and automation strategies based on emerging technologies, standards and industry trends.
• Assess proposals for their impact on current and future strategic direction and architecture.
• Set architecture principles, standards and guidelines that lift automation practice.
• Oversee the resolution or simplification of complex architectural issues.
• Define and drive projects and programs that deliver architecture outcomes.Lead investigation of new approaches, and evaluate and report on proof of concept outcomes and benefits.
• Build strategic relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Prepare technical strategy documents and reports, and advise on solution architectures for automation.
• Direct project teams to resolve non-conformance with automation frameworks and standards.
• Develop others, and uphold the APS Values and Code of Conduct.

The Role

You will align automation processes, tools and strategy with the agency’s business processes and supporting IT systems, and establish and manage the automation policies and frameworks used across the agency. You will work under the direction of the client’s Platform Owner.
