Job summary

Aje invites applications for a Senior Garment Technician at our Head Office in Sydney. You will translate design concepts into production-ready garments, manage specs, fit, and production across our global supplier base.

You will collaborate with Design, Production and Atelier Technical Manager to ensure excellence, consistency, and timely delivery of high-end garments, working in a fast-paced luxury fashion environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in contemporary or luxury fashion.
• Specialisation in women’s tailoring, dresses, denim and knitwear.
• Knitwear and denim knowledge.
• Expertise in fit analysis and block balance.
• Strong garment construction and pattern making across categories.
• Excellent fabric knowledge across woven and jersey.
• Experience in factories in China and India.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed specs, notes and sample requests for offshore sampling.
• Translate design concepts into production-ready garments under guidance from senior designers.
• Ensure BOMs, design details and specs are correct for each style; communicate clearly with factories.
• Analyse Bali toiles with a production-fitting eye to ensure appropriate fit.
• Prepare samples prior to fitting; measure and review to ensure comments followed by factory.
• Attend fittings to provide technical expertise (pattern alterations and fit analysis).
• Update specs and provide clear technical instructions for factories to follow.
• Maintain consistency in sewing and make standards across our supplier base.
• Collaborate with Design, Production and Atelier Technical Manager to address technical and quality concerns in sampling and bulk production.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Stage

Create detailed specs, make notes & sample requests for offshore sampling.

Follow direction from Creative Director & Senior Designers to ensure accurate translation of design concepts into production ready garments.

Work along Product Development to ensure all BOM’s, design details, make notes & specs are correct for each individual style & all comments are clearly communicated for factory understanding.

Analysing Bali toiles with a "production fitting eye” this ensures the appropriate fit alterations are actioned for a well-balanced garment which is in-line with our Aje standards.

Technical & Fitting Stage

Responsible for preparing all samples prior to fitting (press, measure & review to ensure all previous comments have been followed by the factory).

Flag any variance in size before fitting & ensure the factory is informed where appropriate.

Attend fittings to provide technical expertise, (pattern alterations & fit analysis).

Possessing the confidence to verbalise your ideas across to the team in a concise and professional manner.

Update specs correctly & provide clear detailed technical instructions for the factory to follow.

Awareness of any measurments that are not specific to Aje Standards Measurements to prevent any fit issues.

Ensure measurements are consistent across styles, categories & our supplier base as it expands.

Maintain consistency in sewing & make standards across all our supplier base.

Always strive for excellence & innovative ways to improve pattern shape & make with the goal to create a “high end garment”.

Production Stage

Collaborate with Design, Production, and the Atelier Technical Manager to promptly address technical and quality concerns in sampling, bulk production, and faulty returned garments, minimizing delays.

Support the factories to solve specific construction, pattern, measurments queries in-line with the Aje Standards.

Provide accurate grading information for each garment.

Report on quality, faults and production each season detailing each factory performance against target.

Inspect & assess PPS, TOP OF BULK, SHIPPER SAMPLES, flag any issues that could impact delivery with Atelier Technical Manager & Production Manager.

Track correspondence between "T.O.P" & "SHIPPER" samples until the samples are approved.

Request QIMA reports where appropriate & review/approve alongside Production Manger.

Collaborate with the Atelier Technical Manager and Production Manager to assess customer and wholesale returns, and address any recurring issues.

What you will bring:

Extensive experience in contemporary or luxury fashion is essential.

Experience specialising in women’s tailoring, dresses, and soft separates from day to evening, denim & knitwear.

Knitwear experience, knowledge of yarn compositions, gauges/tension, stitch types & knitwear garment construction.

Denim experience, knowledge of denim/thread weight, washes, garment constructions & denim fitting standards.

Expertise in fit analysis & block balance.

Strong understanding of garment construction & patterns making across categories.

Excellent fabric knowledge encompassing woven and jersey from delicate to structured fabric bases, technical components, and sewing machines.

Experience working in factories in China and India.

Able to work in a collaborative approach across departments, open to constructive feedback and be pro-active.

Support the maintenance of a collaborative, positive & organised workspace.

Working closely with Atelier Technical Manager to facilitate seamless workflow & managing your workload from design to bulk approval keeping in line with our critical path.
