Job summary

Preacta in Melbourne is seeking a senior data architect to own data and systems architecture end to end, defining the canonical data model, contracts, and quality standards across the estate.

You will decide master data, how systems connect, and the integration patterns, while guiding AI access via MCP servers and tool contracts. This is a high-trust role with influence on data governance and platform evolution. Hybrid work with three in-office days per week.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software or systems engineering, with end-to-end production systems experience.
• Strong dimensional modelling and data warehouse design, preferably Redshift.
• Proven track record defining data contracts, lineage and quality in production.
• Experience designing integration architecture and API standards across transactional systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the canonical data model, contracts, lineage, quality and freshness across the estate.
• Define master data ownership and system integration patterns, including event standards.
• Lead buy vs build decisions, technical evaluations, and sign-off trade-offs.
• Design the access layer for AI agents (MCP servers and tool contracts) and guide developers.

Job description

A fast-growing fintech in the invoice payments space, helping businesses get paid faster and manage cash flow without taking on debt. It's a senior, high-trust environment: this role sits on par with the leadership team and has real influence over how the business's data and systems are built. Backed by strong investment in tooling, a social culture, and the kind of scope that rarely comes up twice.

Role and responsibilities

You'll own the data and systems architecture end to end. That means the canonical data model (entities, relationships, schemas, semantics), the contracts between systems, and the standards for lineage, quality and freshness. One trusted definition per concept, enforced across the business.

On the systems side, you'll own the landscape itself: which system is master for which data, how everything connects, and the integration patterns, event standards and identity design that hold it together. You'll make the build versus buy calls, lead technical evaluation of vendors, and surface the trade-offs for sign-off. You'll also design the access layer that lets AI agents work with the estate, including MCP servers and tool contracts, and direct the developers building against your architecture.

Key technical skills

• 10+ years in software or systems engineering, with real experience designing production systems end to end
• Strong dimensional modelling and warehouse design experience, ideally in Redshift
• A track record of defining data contracts, lineage and quality standards that held up in production
• Experience designing integration architecture and event or API standards across transactional systems
• Strong AWS experience and working knowledge of Terraform
• Hands-on with ETL and data pipelines, PostgreSQL, and at least one production application framework (Ruby on Rails a plus)
• Experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM inside an integrated system estate
• Working knowledge of how AI agents access data: MCP servers, tool contracts, agent access layers
• Financial services or another regulated, risk-sensitive background is a bonus, as is DDD and data governance experience

Melbourne CBD. Hybrid, Tuesday to Thursday in office, WFH Monday and Friday (3 days in office)
