Responsibilities

• Design, build and support AI agents, workflows and AI-enabled applications using Microsoft Foundry / Azure AI Foundry
• Collaborate across discovery, design, build, test, release and continuous improvement
• Integrate AI with enterprise systems via secure APIs and data services
• Ground AI outputs in trusted enterprise data using Microsoft Fabric
• Apply guardrails: data validation, access control, content safety, escalation points
• Create reliable patterns for escalation, approval and fallback processes

Company Overview

BLACKROC is partnering with a large health and community services organisation to recruit an AI (Agentic) Engineer.

Role Purpose

This is a hands-on engineering role inside a cross-functional AI delivery squad, building practical AI solutions that make a genuine difference to frontline services. You'll take business problems from discovery through to production, designing and building AI agents, workflows and AI-enabled applications on Microsoft Foundry / Azure AI Foundry, grounding them in trusted enterprise data via Microsoft Fabric, and making sure everything you ship is secure, auditable and supportable. Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and support AI agents, workflows and AI-enabled applications using Microsoft Foundry / Azure AI Foundry
• Work as a core squad member across discovery, design, build, testing, release and continuous improvement
• Integrate AI solutions with enterprise systems, data platforms and approved APIs using secure, supportable patterns
• Use Microsoft Fabric and approved data services to ground AI outputs in trusted enterprise data
• Apply guardrails including data validation, access controls, content safety, human review points and escalation pathways
• Build reliable solution patterns covering escalation, approval, exception handling and fallback processes
• Develop testing and evaluation approaches for prompts, retrieval quality, accuracy, safety and regression testing
• Use modern development practices including source control, peer review, automated testing, CI/CD and release management
• Support production readiness — release preparation, runbooks, monitoring, support handover and incident response planning
• Produce clear technical documentation covering solution designs, integrations, control evidence and decision records
• Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute reusable patterns and standards for other AI delivery squads

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics or a related discipline, and/or equivalent experience
• Experience designing, building or supporting AI agents, AI-enabled applications or workflow automation using Microsoft Foundry / Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Services, Azure OpenAI or equivalent platforms
• Experience using Microsoft Fabric or equivalent data platforms for AI grounding, retrieval, data quality or analytics integration
• Experience integrating applications or AI components with enterprise systems using APIs, events, workflow tools or integration services
• Strong coding capability in Python and/or TypeScript/C#, producing maintainable, supportable production code
• Solid understanding of responsible AI, privacy, cyber security, auditability, observability and production support requirements
• Experience with DevOps practices — Git, CI/CD, automated testing, peer review, release management and environment promotion
• Proven ability to collaborate across business, product, architecture, data, platform, cyber security, change, testing and operations teams
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience working in agile, product, squad or cross-functional delivery teams

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in regulated, highly governed or sensitive data environments
• Experience with AI testing, evaluation, monitoring, content safety controls or prompt improvement practices
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric workspaces, OneLake, data lineage, semantic models, governance or cost controls
• Experience developing reusable engineering patterns, templates, standards or guardrails across delivery teams
• Familiarity with AI platform operating models, AI Centres of Excellence or platform-as-a-product approaches
• Microsoft certifications in Azure AI, Azure development, solution architecture, DevOps, data engineering, security or responsible AI
• Postgraduate qualification (MBA, Master of Information Systems)
