Job summary

Essential Care in the Illawarra region is seeking caring, reliable Support Workers to join our team. You will provide person-centred care in clients' homes, helping maintain independence and quality of life.

We value continuity of care and seek team members who are reliable, committed, and available for ongoing regular shifts. Flexible weekday starts from 7:00am and weekend availability are preferred.

Qualifications

• Current Australian Driver licence required.
• Reliable vehicle.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Current CPR Certificate.
• NDIS Worker Screening Check.
• Working With Children Check.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including personal care.
• Showering, dressing and grooming.
• Toileting and continence support.
• Mobility assistance and transfers.
• Meal preparation and cooking.
• Prompt and monitor medications.
• Domestic assistance: vacuuming, mopping, laundry, and cleaning bathrooms/kitchens.
• Transport clients to appointments, activities, shopping and events.
• Support clients to engage with their community and maintain social connections.
• Provide in-home and community respite support.
• Monitor wellbeing and report changes or concerns.
• Complete accurate documentation and progress notes.
• Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, dignity and respect.

About the role

As a Support Worker, you will provide person-centred support to clients living in their own homes, helping them maintain their independence, wellbeing, and quality of life.

A key part of this role is providing consistent support. We strongly believe that continuity of care allows both clients and support workers to build trust, rapport, and meaningful relationships. For this reason, we are seeking team members who are reliable, committed, and available for ongoing regular shifts.

Preferred availability includes:

• Weekday shifts commencing from 7:00am
• Availability to work every second weekend
• Flexibility to work across a range of shifts as required

Key Responsibilities

• Assist clients with activities of daily living including:
• Personal care
• Showering, dressing and grooming
• Toileting and continence support
• Mobility assistance and transfers
• Assist with meal preparation and cooking
• Prompt and monitor medication as directed
• Perform domestic assistance tasks including:
• Vacuuming and mopping
• Laundry and linen changes
• Cleaning bathrooms, kitchens and living areas
• Transport clients to appointments, social activities, shopping and community events
• Support clients to engage with their community and maintain social connections
• Provide respite support in-home and within the community
• Monitor client wellbeing and report any changes or concerns
• Complete accurate documentation and progress notes
• Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, dignity and respect at all times

About you

You are someone who genuinely enjoys supporting others and understands the importance of reliability, consistency, and building positive relationships with clients.

You will have:

• Current Australian Drivers Licence
• Reliable vehicle
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Current CPR Certificate
• NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Working With Children Check
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Highly desirable:

• Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, Mental Health, Aged Care, or related field (or currently studying)
• Previous experience in disability, aged care or mental health
• Experience using hoists, Sara Steady, standing lifters and other mobility equipment
