Job summary

Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking a senior Compliance professional to support the Compliance Management Framework across the organisation. You will provide trusted compliance advice, oversight of regulatory obligations and strengthen a culture of accountability.

The role collaborates with stakeholders to embed compliance across the enterprise and supports governance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Experience in compliance, risk, governance, legal, audit or related disciplines within a regulated environment.
  • Ability to interpret and manage regulatory obligations with practical, risk-based advice.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Compliance Business Partner (second line of defence) for System Design and Gas Operations.
  • Identify, assess and manage compliance obligations, risks and opportunities.
  • Support the delivery of compliance strategy and transformation roadmap across the organisation.
  • Manage compliance incidents, action tracking and regulatory reporting.
  • Contribute to compliance monitoring, reporting and data analytics.

About The Role

As a key member of AEMO's Compliance Function, you will support the ongoing development and enhancement of AEMO's Compliance Management Framework, helping to ensure compliance obligations are effectively understood, managed and embedded across the organisation. You will provide trusted compliance advice and oversight across a broad range of regulatory and corporate obligations, working closely with stakeholders to strengthen compliance capability and promote a culture of accountability. Using compliance data, analytics and reporting, you will identify trends, monitor performance and support governance, assurance and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is ideal for an experienced compliance professional looking to make a meaningful impact while contributing to AEMO's evolving enterprise‑wide compliance management function. This role has flexibility to be based from AEMO's Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane office.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Act as the Compliance Business Partner (second line of defence) for System Design and Gas Operations.
  • Partner with the business to identify, assess and manage compliance obligations, risks and opportunities through a pragmatic, risk‑based approach.
  • Support the delivery of AEMO's compliance strategy and transformation roadmap, helping to strengthen compliance capability and culture across the organisation.
  • Manage compliance incidents, action tracking and regulatory reporting activities to support effective risk management and accountability.
  • Contribute to compliance monitoring, reporting and data analytics, providing insights that support governance, assurance and continuous improvement.
What You Will Bring To The Role
  • Experience in compliance, risk, governance, legal, audit or a related discipline within a complex or highly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and managing regulatory obligations, with a strong understanding of compliance risks, controls and frameworks.
  • Proven ability to build trusted stakeholder relationships, influence outcomes and provide practical, risk‑based compliance advice.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and analytical skills, with experience delivering training, preparing reports and using data to support decision‑making.
  • Experience with GRC systems, compliance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives; energy sector or other highly regulated industry experience is highly regarded.
