Job summary

Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking an Analyst - Energy Market Registration to contribute to the efficient operation of Australia’s energy markets by managing registration and onboarding activities for participants. You will develop a broad understanding of market registration requirements under NER, NGR and AEMO policies while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, with flexible working options.

Qualifications

  • Regulatory, governance or similar experience in energy sector.
  • Ability to interpret information and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication.
  • Experience in a regulatory/compliance environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end registration and onboarding for participants.
  • Assess registration applications for compliance with market rules.
  • Build relationships with applicants and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and maintain registration documentation.

About The Team

The Market Registration team plays a critical role in supporting participants entering and operating within Australia's energy markets. We facilitate and manage registration processes across the National Electricity Market (NEM), East Coast Gas Markets and the WA Retail Gas Market, ensuring applications are assessed fairly, efficiently and in accordance with regulatory requirements. Working closely with industry participants, regulators and internal stakeholders, the team helps enable effective market participation while supporting the ongoing evolution and improvement of Australia's energy sector.

About The Role

As an Analyst - Energy Market Registration, you will contribute to the efficient operation of Australia's energy markets by managing registration and onboarding activities and supporting regulatory compliance obligations. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail‑oriented analyst with strong stakeholder management skills who enjoys working in a regulatory environment. You will develop a broad understanding of market registration requirements governed by the National Electricity Rules (NER), National Gas Rules (NGR) and AEMO policies, while contributing to process improvements, reform initiatives and industry change programs. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to deliver positive registration outcomes and help shape improvements that benefit market participants and the broader energy industry.

This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane
What You Will Be Doing
  • Manage end-to-end registration and onboarding activities for participants across AEMO-operated energy markets.
  • Assess registration applications and support compliance with relevant market rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Build strong relationships with applicants and internal stakeholders to deliver a positive and efficient registration experience.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate registration assessments, records and supporting documentation.
  • Support the implementation of regulatory changes, market reforms and business improvement initiatives impacting Market Registration.
  • Assist in the management of complex registration matters, working closely with senior team members and subject matter experts.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance the effectiveness of registration activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing delivery of a high-performing, collaborative and customer-focused team environment.
What You Will Bring To The Role
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in a regulatory, compliance, governance or similar environment, ideally within the energy sector.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret information and make sound, evidence‑based decisions.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive working relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise documentation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality outcomes.
  • A proactive approach, demonstrating initiative, accountability and professional integrity.
