Job summary

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians is seeking an Advanced Trainee for outpatient and outreach work across Alice Springs and Central Australia. Description

Provide a high quality of medical care to patients attending outpatient clinics and outreach services across Alice Springs and Central Australia.

Deliver care within a supervised General and Acute Care Medicine service while developing advanced clinical skills in ambulatory medicine.

Participate in teaching, supervision and quality improvement activities to support excellent patient outcomes.

This General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Trainee position provides broad ambulatory medicine experience across the outpatient and outreach services of the Division of Medicine. The trainee works alongside physicians across General and Acute Care Medicine, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Respiratory Medicine, Rheumatology and Gastroenterology, providing multidisciplinary care to a culturally diverse patient population, including Aboriginal patients from remote communities.

The role provides experience across outpatient clinics and outreach services, supported by consultant supervision, with opportunities to participate in teaching, quality improvement and research. There may also be an opportunity to undertake a further 6-month placement in General and Acute Care Medicine or Respiratory Medicine Advanced Training.

To be successful in this role, candidates will possess the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

• Eligible for General registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Successful completion of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) written and clinical examinations and within two full-time years of completing the relevant specialist training program.
• Sound clinical knowledge in the assessment and management of patients with complex medical presentations across a broad range of adult medical specialties.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• An interest in and a commitment to improving Aboriginal health.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development, teaching, research and quality improvement relevant to outpatient and outreach services.
