Description

Provide a high quality of medical care to inpatients and outpatients of Alice Springs Hospital, including patients from remote regions.

Deliver care within a supervised Endocrinology service while developing clinical skills in endocrinology and diabetes management.

Contribute to patient outcomes through effective management, multidisciplinary care, and participation in teaching and outreach.

Alice Springs Hospital is accredited for 12 months of core Endocrinology Advanced Training, providing trainees with the opportunity to undertake accredited training in endocrinology and diabetes within a regional setting. The position is available for 6 or 12 months of Endocrinology Advanced Training, with the potential for a further 6 months in a General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Trainee position. The trainee works within an established endocrinology service, with exposure to outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, complex endocrine conditions and multidisciplinary care, supported by regular teaching and supervision from endocrinologists and general physicians. The role also provides valuable experience in culturally appropriate care, particularly in the management of Aboriginal patients from remote communities.

To be successful in this role, candidates will possess the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  • Eligible for General registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Successful completion of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) written and clinical examinations.
  • Sound clinical knowledge in the assessment and management of patients, including complex medical presentations and endocrine or metabolic conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • An interest in and a commitment to improving Aboriginal health.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development, teaching, research and quality improvement, with a commitment to advanced training in endocrinology and diabetes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within relevant Equal Employment Opportunity and Work Health and Safety principles.
