The Administrator (Research) in the Surgical and Orthopaedic Research Laboratory (SORL) at the University of New South Wales in Sydney supports day-to-day research administration, with a focus on post-award grant activities, reporting requirements and active project management. Position Summary
The Administrator (Research) provides high-quality, day-to-day research administration support to the Surgical and Orthopaedic Research Laboratory (SORL), with a particular focus on supporting post-award grant activities, reporting requirements and the effective administration of active research projects. Working closely with researchers and relevant University stakeholders, the role helps ensure research activities are well coordinated, compliant with grant requirements and supported by efficient administrative processes.
This is a research-focused administrative role within a non-standard laboratory environment, requiring a high degree of flexibility, adaptability and attention to detail. The Administrator will manage a broad range of activities including research administration, record and database management, meetings and events, correspondence, staff and visitor onboarding, and project and process improvement activities. The role requires someone who is proactive and organised, understands when matters require follow-up, and can exercise sound judgement to ensure actions and deadlines do not fall through the gaps.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as the position works with researchers, professional staff and internal and external stakeholders with different working styles, priorities and personalities. The successful candidate will be comfortable building effective working relationships, adapting their approach to different stakeholders and responding positively to changing priorities and requirements within a dynamic research environment.
The role requires strong organisational and problem-solving skills, advanced numeracy and Microsoft Office capability, and the ability to work independently while contributing collaboratively to the broader research team. A practical, responsive approach and the ability to remain organised and accurate while adapting to changing circumstances will be important to success in the position.
The role reports to the Professor of Surgery and has no direct reports.
