Job description

Ever wondered what it’s like to be the person who helps patients feel supported through a busy hospital system?
If you’re organised, people-focused and naturally empathetic, this role gives you the chance to shape how patients experience their care. With Rockhampton’s Specialist Outpatient Department, you’ll work closely with clinical teams, helping patients navigate appointments, referrals and waitlists - often being the reassuring voice on the other end of the phone.
With exposure to a major referral hospital and a wide range of specialist services you’ll have opportunities to build your skills and be part of the team keeping everything running smoothly because this is more than bookings - it’s helping make great care happen.

About us:

Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed major referral hospital where big cases, big learning and big opportunities come together. With specialist services spanning Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Cardiology, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, plus state-of-the-art equipment and newly established integrated cancer care services, there's plenty to keep things interesting.

And the learning doesn't stop at the bedside. With an active Medical Education Unit, extensive registrar training and strong university connections, Rockhampton Hospital is serious about developing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

About the role:
  • Deliver a high-quality patient booking and waitlist management service, ensuring referrals are processed accurately and patients are scheduled within required timeframes while maximising available appointment capacity.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, clinicians and stakeholders by responding to enquiries with empathy, professionalism and discretion, while maintaining confidentiality and referring clinical matters appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate patient information and waiting lists through effective use of healthcare information systems, ensuring data is timely, complete and supports informed clinical and operational decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment while managing competing priorities, demonstrating sound judgement, strong organisational skills and a commitment to continuous improvement, compliance and high ethical standards.
About you:
  • Keep everything on track with proven experience coordinating bookings, managing waiting lists and scheduling appointments, ensuring service targets are met and patients receive timely access to care in a dynamic environment.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced setting by effectively managing competing priorities, working independently with limited supervision, meeting deadlines, and contributing positively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Build strong relationships through exceptional communication, consultation and negotiation skills, confidently engaging with patients, clients and stakeholders at all levels to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Bring a commitment to excellence by embracing contemporary workplace practices, including workplace health and safety, equity and inclusion, while confidently using or quickly learning clinical information systems to support accurate and efficient service delivery.
What we offer:

Total monthly remuneration value of up to $8,423 p.m. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $40.17 - $44.67 p.h.
