Job summary

Hume Transport is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Officer to cover maternity leave at our Albury office. You will own the end-to-end accounts payable function, coordinate with the Office Manager, and support reception and general admin tasks.

The role requires accuracy, initiative, and strong communication with suppliers and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate has prior accounts payable experience, is proficient in Xero, and demonstrates excellent time management and

• Experience in accounts payable or similar role.
• Confident using Xero (or similar accounting software).
• Strong MS Office skills (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• High attention to detail and accurate data entry.
• Well-developed time management and organisational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices and statements, check and obtain authorisation.
• Enter and maintain suppliers in Xero.
• Initiate supplier payments and ensure creditors are paid within terms.
• Collate and follow up subcontractor bills.
• Month-end supplier statement reconciliation and monthly reconciliation.
• Credit card expense allocation and receipt processing in Xero.
• Prepare Fuel Tax Credit spreadsheet.
• Reconcile payment bank accounts; full pallet control.
• Assist with payroll (timecards, enter payroll into spreadsheet and Xero).

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Officer to cover maternity leave on a fixed-term basis. Working closely with our Office Manager, you'll own the end-to-end accounts payable function alongside reception and general admin support — a hands-on, varied role for someone who enjoys accuracy, structure, and being the go-to person for supplier queries.

• Processing supplier invoices and statements – checking, sorting and obtaining authorisation
• Entering and maintaining suppliers in Xero
• Initiating supplier payments and ensuring creditors are paid within terms
• Collating and following up subcontractor bills
• Month-end supplier statement reconciliation and monthly reconciliation
• Credit card expense allocation and receipt processing in Xero
• Preparing the Fuel Tax Credit spreadsheet
• Reconciling the Payment bank accounts
• Full pallet control
• Assisting with payroll (timecards, entering payroll into spreadsheet and Xero)

About You

• Prior experience in an accounts payable or similar role
• Confident using Xero (or similar accounting software)
• Strong administrative skills across the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• High attention to detail and accurate data entry skills
• Well-developed time management and organisational skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Positive, friendly and approachable manner
• Proactive, uses initiative and collaborates well with internal and external stakeholders
