Job summary

Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) is seeking an Aboriginal Community Engagement Worker for Balit Ngulu, our youth justice program in Melbourne. This role focuses on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, strengthening connections with families and communities, and providing culturally safe holistic pathways away from the justice system.

The Balit Ngulu program delivers culturally safe legal assistance and case management across Melbourne and Greater

Qualifications

• Certificate IV or Diploma in Youth Work or equivalent experience.
• Current Working with Children Check and National Criminal History Check may be required.
• Right to work in Australia and Victorian Driver Licence.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to support safety and engagement with legal and non-legal services.
• Provide client liaison, advocacy, and warm referrals to Aboriginal community controlled organizations and other services.
• Support young people to attend court and participate in proceedings.
• Contribute to holistic case planning with internal teams and external partners.
• Maintain accurate and timely client records and documentation.
