Job summary

Coast & Country Primary Care (CCPC) is seeking an Aboriginal Health Worker to join a multidisciplinary team delivering culturally safe, person-centred mental health support across Bathurst, Orange and surrounding areas. You will promote access and engagement for Aboriginal consumers and work with communities to strengthen care pathways.

The role focuses on yarning-based engagement, cultural guidance to the MDT, and collaboration with ACCOs and SEWB services.

Qualifications

• Must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
• Holds or working towards a Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or willingness to undertake training.
• Previous experience in a similar position.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal societies and cultures and issues affecting Aboriginal people.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders.
• Valid WWCC and CRC within last 12 months for working with vulnerable groups.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally safe engagement and support to Aboriginal consumers, families and communities accessing mental health services.
• Facilitate Aboriginal access pathways and navigate services to reduce barriers.
• Build trusting relationships with Aboriginal consumers, families, Elders and communities.
• Support culturally appropriate care through yarning-based engagement and advocacy.
• Provide cultural advice to the multidisciplinary team to improve consumer outcomes.
• Liaise with ACCOs, SEWB services and partners to strengthen referral pathways.
• Support community engagement activities and partnerships with Aboriginal communities.
