Job summary

Coast & Country Primary Care (CCPC) seeks an Aboriginal Health Worker to join a multidisciplinary team delivering Psychological Therapies for Underserviced Populations across Dubbo and region.

You will promote culturally safe, person‑centred care and support engagement and outcomes for Aboriginal consumers. The role involves collaborative work with ACCOs, SEWB services and community partners to strengthen referral pathways.

Qualifications

• Must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
• Working towards or holds Certificate III in Aboriginal Health Care/Primary Health Care.
• Previous experience in a similar role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and issues.
• Ability to communicate sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
• WWCC and CRC within last 12 months.
• Driver’s license and access to a vehicle, willing to travel within Western NSW.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally safe engagement and support to Aboriginal consumers and communities accessing mental health services.
• Assist consumers to navigate services and reduce barriers to engagement and care.
• Build trusting relationships with Aboriginal consumers, families, Elders and communities.
• Support culturally appropriate care through yarning-based engagement and advocacy.
• Offer cultural advice to the MDT to improve consumer outcomes.
• Collaborate with ACCOs, SEWB services and partners to strengthen referrals.

Job Description

About the role

The Aboriginal Health Worker will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing Psychological Therapies for Underserviced Populations Program across Dubbo and surrounding region.

This role is responsible for improving access, engagement and outcomes for Aboriginal consumers by promoting culturally safe, person-centred care, strengthening community connections and supporting culturally responsive service delivery.

You will be required to undertake a range of tasks including but not limited to the following:

• Provide culturally safe engagement and support to Aboriginal consumers, families and communities accessing mental health services.
• Facilitate Aboriginal access pathways and assist consumers to navigate services, reducing barriers to engagement and care.
• Build trusting and respectful relationships with Aboriginal consumers, families, Elders, communities and key stakeholders.
• Support the delivery of culturally appropriate care through yarning-based engagement, advocacy and culturally responsive practices.
• Provide cultural advice and guidance to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to enhance cultural capability and improve consumer outcomes.
• Liaise and collaborate with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) services and other community partners to strengthen referral pathways and coordinated care.
• Support community engagement activities, outreach initiatives and partnerships that strengthen relationships between the service and Aboriginal communities.

Key Selection Criteria

• Must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
• Holds or working towards a Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or willingness to undertake (or completion of) training as an Aboriginal Health Worker
• Previous experience in a similar position
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal societies and cultures and the issues affecting Aboriginal people
• Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
• Ability to work closely and collaboratively and build rapport with key stakeholders
• A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and aCriminal Record Check (CRC) issued within the last 12 months that includes working with vulnerable groups
• Driver’s license and access to a reliable and insured motor vehicle, and willingness to travel throughout Western NSW as required.

Essential

• Eligibility to work in Australia permanently.
• A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for paid employment to be obtained and maintained at your own expense.
• A Criminal Record Check (CRC) issued within the last 12 months that includes working with vulnerable groups.
• First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate (obtained and maintained at your own expense)
• Driver’s license and access to a reliable and insured motor vehicle.

Part-time is preferred; however, full-time and casual arrangements may be considered for the successful candidate.
