Job summary

Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation seeks an Aboriginal Health Worker/Aboriginal Health Practitioner to support the Aboriginal Families First Initiative – 2000 Days, guiding families from pregnancy through early childhood with culturally safe care.

You will collaborate with midwives, GPs, social workers, and therapists to connect families to the right services, promoting culture at the heart of care.

Qualifications

• Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and values culture in care.
• Holds relevant qualifications as an Aboriginal Health Worker and/or Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
• Experience in Aboriginal health, community services or related environment.
• Ability to build trust, respect and genuine connection.

Responsibilities

• Builds strong relationships with Aboriginal women, children and families.
• Supports families through pregnancy and early years.
• Provides culturally appropriate health information, education and support.
• Facilitates engagement with antenatal, postnatal, child health and allied health services.
• Helps families navigate health and community services.
• Supports referrals and connections to appropriate services.
• Identifies barriers to accessing care.
• Encourages attendance at appointments and engagement with services.
• Promotes healthy lifestyles, child development and family wellbeing.
• Works with clinicians to deliver culturally safe service delivery.
• Contributes cultural knowledge to the multidisciplinary team.
• Supports communication between families and service providers.
• Maintains records and documentation within role scope.
• Participates in community engagement and health promotion activities.
