Job summary

Lismore City Council invites applications for a Trainee Aboriginal Environmental Health Officer. This six-year program blends full-time work with university study to achieve a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) through Western Sydney University.

You will receive paid study leave, tutoring, and payment of fees for completed subjects, plus structured training and mentoring at council. Gain hands-on inspection experience while supporting public health education in the community.

Qualifications

• Be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander by descent and identity, recognised by the community.
• Be eligible to enrol in the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) at Western Sydney University.
• Commit to part-time study while working full-time over six years.
• Demonstrate good communication and written skills.
• Be able to travel as required and hold a current driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspections of onsite sewerage, food premises, pools, skin penetration businesses and other facilities.
• Respond to community enquiries and assist in investigating complaints.
• Support community education initiatives that promote public health and the environment.
