Job summary

Coonamble Public School in North-Western NSW is seeking an Aboriginal Education Officer to support teachers, Aboriginal students, and families to improve learning, welfare and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal students.

The role forms part of the NSW Department of Education, focusing on culturally responsive programs, literacy and numeracy, and strong student wellbeing practices across the school community.

Qualifications

Total Remuneration Package: The salary range for this position is $45.78 - $49.82 per hour. The total salary package will include employer's contribution to superannuation and leave loading

Position Information

Coonamble Public School is located in North-Western NSW approximately 170km North West of Dubbo. It is a Connected Communities school with approx. 230 students P-6 including 4 support classes. The Aboriginal population in the school is 85-90%. The school implements high-quality programs, which focus on literacy and numeracy with high expectations, collaborative practices and evidence-based teaching.

There is a strong focus on student wellbeing, inclusion, active participation and recognition of achievement. Aboriginal language and culture is taught across the school. The impact of wellbeing on learning is a crucial consideration with Positive Behaviour for Learning and Trauma Informed Practice providing the foundations to prepare students for learning.

Specific Selection Criteria

• Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of Aboriginal communities and cultures.
• Ability to interact with Aboriginal students and parents.
• Experience working as part of a team.
• Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community.
