Job summary

Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council is seeking an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer to support stronger engagement between the Aboriginal community and Upper Hunter Shire Council. The role involves assisting with community engagement, consultation and communications over ~21 hours per week, guided by a Project Work Plan and supported by Wanaruah LALC.

You will build respectful relationships with Elders, families and community, support consultation activities and help communicate feedback

Responsibilities

• Building respectful relationships with Aboriginal community members, Elders, families and organizations.
• Assisting communication between Wanaruah LALC, Upper Hunter Shire Council and community.
• Supporting Aboriginal community consultation and engagement activities.
• Talking with community members and gathering feedback.
• Communicating community feedback and issues to the appropriate people.
• Assisting Council staff with culturally appropriate community engagement.
• Attending relevant community meetings, consultations and project meetings.
• Supporting community events and activities.
• Helping community members understand relevant Council projects, programs and opportunities.
• Keeping basic records of engagement activities and meetings.
