Job summary

Wesley Mission in New South Wales is seeking 3 part-time Therapeutic Gambling Counsellors (30 hours per week) to join the GambleAware program across Windsor, Fairfield and Katoomba.

You will deliver person-centred counselling, risk and intake assessments, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support individuals and families affected by gambling harm in alignment with harm-reduction principles. NSW Driver's license and WWC clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Counselling or Psychology.
• Understanding and development in co-mobilities, addictions and/or gambling counselling.
• Knowledge of problem gambling issues, DV, substance abuse, mental health, grief and loss.
• Membership of a professional association (ACA, APS, PACFA).
• Current NSW driver's license and Working with Children Check.

Responsibilities

• Provide therapeutic counselling sessions in a person-centred approach.
• Promote harm reduction, recovery and wellbeing.
• Conduct intake and risk assessments in line with governance requirements.
• Deliver face-to-face, phone and digital counselling as funding allows.
• Engage with communities to reduce stigma around gambling harm.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure access to support.

About the program

GambleAware program delivers a stepped, multimodal and person-centred approach to supporting individuals, families and communities affected by gambling harm. Our work spans early intervention, therapeutic counselling, community engagement and education—focused not only on responding to harm, but also on reducing stigma, strengthening community capacity and increasing help seeking.

We work collaboratively with local services, community partners and stakeholders to create accessible pathways to care and ensure support is responsive, culturally informed and grounded in best practice harm reduction principles.

About the role

As part of our growing GambleAware team, you will contribute to delivering high‑quality, compassionate support to people experiencing gambling‑related harm or who are at risk of harm

Working within a multidisciplinary team, Our Gambling Counsellors will be expected to :

• Provide therapeutic counselling sessions, through evidence informed, person-centred practice
• Promote harm reduction, recovery and wellbeing
• Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and risk assessments in line with clinical governance requirements
• Provide face to face, phone and digital counselling in line with funding requirements and clinical practice
• Strengthen community awareness and reducing stigma around gambling harm through a variety of outreach and community engagement initiatives
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless access to support
• Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent in Counselling or Psychology
• Understanding and development in co-mobilities, addictions and/or gambling counselling
• an understanding and knowledge of problem gambling issues, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health, grief and loss
• demonstrated skills & experience of a broad range of therapeutic approaches when working with individuals, couples and families.
• experience in community networking and building relationships to raise awareness
• membership of professional association (i.e. ACA, APS, PACFA)
• demonstrate highly developed communication skills in written and oral situations, with supportive & positive attitude toward all persons for whom there is responsibility, accountability or care
• excellent time management, multi-tasking and follow-up skills
• willingness to affirm Wesley Mission’s vision, mission and values
• current NSW driver’s license
• current Working with Children’s Check.
