Job summary

Bechtel Australia invites applications for a 4-month internship in the Eva Copper Field Engineering team on a 2/1 roster from Brisbane to Cloncurry, QLD, Nov 2026 to Feb 2027. You will assist with technical direction, site coordination, and learning how large-scale EPC projects are delivered.

You must be enrolled in a four-year B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, able to work in Australia, and willing to relocate/travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• Completed coursework relevant to mechanical engineering.
• Prior co-op or internship experience in engineering or construction.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Practical work experience in a construction environment.
• Demonstrated teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction to the craft for installation of mechanical equipment.
• Interpret and apply industry codes for installation of rotating and mechanical equipment.
• Interface with other functions including engineering and procurement.
• Perform constructability reviews.
• Plan and package the work for the craft.
• Verify installed quantities.
• Resolve technical issues with designer of record.
• Manage equipment and materials for both permanent plant and indirect construction use.
• Perform inspections and tests to verify quality and manage quality records.
• Interact with subcontractors.
• Implement standard work processes and procedures.

The Eva Copper Mine Project is a greenfield resource poised to become the largest new mine in Queensland, Australia. It is located in Cloncurry on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people. The Project is owned by Harmony, a world-class gold and copper mining and development company with assets in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. Bechtel is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the Eva Copper Process Plant and Non-Process Infrastructure. Bechtel is providing these EPC services across all disciplines and functions for this exciting capital project.

Bechtel Australia offers structured summer internships and graduate programs across major infrastructure, mining, and energy projects in locations like Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney.

This is a 4 month internship placement in the Eva Copper Field Engineering team on a 2/1 roster from Brisbane to Cloncurry, QLD from Nov-2026 to Feb-2027.

Major Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction to the craft for the installation of mechanical equipment
• Interpret and apply industry codes for the installation of rotating and mechanical equipment
• Interface with other functions including engineering and procurement
• Perform constructability reviews
• Plan and package the work for the craft

Education And Experience Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Mechanical Engineering at an accredited college or university
• Possess the eligibility to work and remain in Australia without sponsorship now or in the future
• Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites
