Job summary

Hindmarsh Shire Council invites applications for Plant Operator Labourers in Nhill or Jeparit. This permanent full-time role operates within the Infrastructure Services team, supporting civil works and machinery tasks across the East and West Teams.

A 9-day fortnight arrangement accompanies the role, with duties spanning roadwork, concreting, and maintenance to serve the Nhill/Jeparit areas. Applicants must hold a Victorian heavy rigid licence, White Card, and demonstrate safe work practices;

Qualifications

• Experience in working as part of a team.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
• Experience in basic routine plant maintenance and operation of plant and equipment.
• Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical, Working with Children Check and police check.
• Current Victorian Driver Licence with Heavy Rigid endorsement.
• Construction Induction (White Card) training.
• GPS Grader operation is highly regarded.

About the Role

Council has opportunities available in the East and West Teams (either in Nhill or Jeparit) following the retirements of two long term staff members and an internal promotion. As a member of Council's Infrastructure Services team, the Plant Operator / Labourer has a varied role to support a number of functions in Council. The success of our service is largely related to work flexibility which means that you will be required to carry out a variety of duties, as determined and directed by your Team Leader. Duties may include, but not limited to:

• Tar truck operation
• Truck driving
• Tree trimming
• Rolling
• Grading
• Concreting footpaths and installing culverts

As a Plant Operator Labourer, you will be expected to undertake manual tasks such as labouring on civil projects as well as some machinery operation.

Key Selection Criteria

• Current Victorian Driver Licence with Heavy Rigid endorsement
• Construction Induction (White Card) training
• Experience in working with heavy mechanical plant. GPS Grader operation highly regarded.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
• Experience in basic routine plant maintenance and operation of plant and equipment.
• Experience in working as part of a team.
• Physically able to carry out the position.
• Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical, Working with Children Check and police check.
