Job summary

AT&S in Leoben, Austria, seeks a Senior Expert in Photonics & Optical Integration to advance electro‑optical integration concepts and system-level objectives. You will work across optical, electrical, and packaging domains to ensure feasible, coherent solutions and to drive joint design activities with external partners.

The ideal candidate has a Master's or PhD in a technical field and strong experience in photonics, optical integration, or advanced packaging.

Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Electronics or comparable field.
Experience in photonics, optical integration, or advanced packaging in an industrial R&D environment.
Experience with PIC design, optical simulation, optical system design or optoelectronic components is advantageous.
Experience with advanced packaging with optical integration (e.g. co-packaged optics).
Understanding of PCB/packaging manufacturing environments is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Develop and evaluate electro-optical integration concepts to support system-level objectives.
Collaborate across optical, electrical, and packaging domains for consistent solutions.
Define and evaluate coupling approaches, optical interfaces, and system architecture.
Analyze simulation and experimental results to assess performance and feasibility.
Identify trade-offs between performance, manufacturability, and integration complexity.
Interface with external partners and research organizations to align approaches.
Prepare technical reports, presentations, and internal documentation.
Contribute to knowledge transfer within the organization about electro-optical integration approaches.
