Job description

The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is Austria’s largest Research and Technology Organisation (RTO). We aim to transform scientific excellence into innovation with impact. Together with our partners, we develop technologies and solutions for a sustainable, resilient, and digitalized future, strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and technological sovereignty. Our international teams combine cutting-edge research with strong implementation expertise to create measurable value for industry and society.

Our Center for Digital Safety & Security is looking for new Ingenious Partners for our location in Vienna (Giefinggasse, 1210). Our research field Dependable Systems Engineering (DSE), within the competence Unit Cyber Security & Communication Technologies, focuses on researching and developing methods, tools and standards for increasing, verifying and validating the dependability and trustworthiness of software and systems, from conception through certification to operation.

Our ThreatGet team develops model-based methods and tools for cybersecurity threat analysis and risk assessment, from research concepts to an industrially used platform. We are looking for a colleague who co-leads our proposal and project activities together with the team lead, and brings the formal and algorithmic foundations that strengthen ThreatGet's methodological core.

Scientist (f/m/d) – Model-Based Cybersecurity Risk Analysis
  • You co-coordinate AIT's research proposals for national and European funding programmes (Horizon Europe, Chips JU, FFG).
  • You shape our contributions, draft technical sections, plan effort and budgets, and liaise with consortium partners.
  • You take on tasks and work package lead roles in running projects, including deliverables, reporting and partner coordination.
  • You contribute to the method development of ThreatGet, AIT's model-based threat analysis and risk assessment platform, which is used in automotive and applied industrial systems. You strengthen its formal and algorithmic foundations, for example graph-based reasoning on system models, attack path analysis, and model transformation and composition.
  • You translate project results and industrial needs into concepts that our development team brings into the platform.
  • You publish your results and contribute to scientific and standardisation activities.
  • You help shape new research directions, such as threat analysis for AI-enabled systems, which AIT is currently investigating.
  • You contribute to shaping the group's research and project strategy and develop ideas for new research directions and projects.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Completed studies (at least MSc) in computer science or a related field; PhD or equivalent research experience is an advantage
  • Experience in preparing competitive research proposals and delivering collaborative research projects, with the ability to take increasing responsibility for tasks, work packages and partner coordination. Experience in these areas is expected; a proven track record of leading research activities is an advantage.
  • Insight into industrial needs, ideally through industry-facing projects or contacts
  • Experience in cybersecurity risk assessment or threat modelling and familiarity with relevant standards and regulation (e.g. ISO/SAE 21434, IEC 62443, CRA) are an advantage
  • Scientific publications or an industrial project track record are an advantage.
  • You bring the scientific and technical expertise to work independently on complex research challenges and are ready to take responsibility for research activities, project tasks and technical contributions.
  • High level of commitment and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent English skills (spoken & written); German is an advantage

What to expect:

  • The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 68.152,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
  • In addition, we offer company benefits, flexitime arrangements (including up to 50% remote working), support for conference travel and networking, as well as personalised professional development and career opportunities. Among the highlights of our employee benefits are a canteen with a meal allowance, organic coffee, tea and fruit baskets, health check-ups and access to a company doctor, a pension scheme, additional days off for various life events, family benefits (including two weeks’ paid paternity leave and leisure allowances), a voucher scheme, sports, cultural and team events, as well as many other benefits.
