Job summary

Novartis in Schaftenau, Austria is seeking a Quality Control Specialist II to support validation, transfer and lifecycle management of virological and molecular analytical methods. You will contribute to robust QC processes for cell banks, process intermediates and biological products.

The role requires hands-on mammalian cell culture, virus-based analytics and nucleic acid amplification techniques, with collaboration across QC, QA, regulatory, and external partners.

Qualifications

• University degree in virology, molecular biology, cell biology, biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related life-science discipline.
• Hands-on knowledge of mammalian cell culture and cell-based analytical techniques including virus-based methods and nucleic acid amplification workflows.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate laboratory activities and manage priorities.
• Clear, proactive, collaborative communication across laboratories, functions, sites and external partners.
• Ability to analyze complex technical issues and translate science into practical lab procedures.
• Very good written and spoken English; good German or willingness to develop not required daily.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and support development, optimization, and validation/transfer for cell-based and molecular analytical methods focusing on in vitro virus assay and readouts.
• Prepare, review, and maintain analytical procedures, protocols, reports, risk assessments, and GxP documentation in English.
• Assess method performance, investigate issues, define corrective actions, and implement CAPAs as needed.
• Coordinate lab activities and priorities across QC analysts and collaborating labs, including shared equipment and resources.
• Work with QC, QA, regulatory, manufacturing, development, biosafety, and external partners to ensure robust analytical solutions for routine QC use.
• Support deviations, investigations, data review, change controls, and inspection readiness where applicable.
• Monitor regulatory and pharmacopeial developments relevant to virology, molecular biology, cell-based testing, and new analytics.
• Drive continuous improvement and efficient workflows while maintaining quality, safety and compliance.
