The University of Graz invites applications for a professorship in Moral Theology within the Faculty of Theology. The successful candidate will advance research areas including ethics of relationships and bioethics, contributing to department and faculty profile development with new priorities.
The appointee will network extensively, participate in national and international cooperation, and aim to attract competitive third-party funds for future research projects.
As an academic subdiscipline of systematic theology, the subject “moral theology” is of central importance to the Faculty of Theology in both research and teaching. Moral theology is understood as an ethical discipline that examines human judgment and action from the perspective of Christian beliefs. It reflects, on an academic basis, on the moral practices of human beings from the perspective of the Christian faith and contributes these reflections, in a systematically organized form, to both societal and ecclesiastical dialogue.
In addition to the fundamentals of moral theology, the research profile of the professorship encompasses area-specific ethics, such as the ethics of relationships or bioethics. The successful candidate will further develop these areas of focus and contribute to the profile development of the department and the faculty by establishing new research priorities.
The applicant is expected to engage in networking both within and outside the university for the Department of Moral Theology, for example through fields of excellence, research networks, or other forms of cooperation, as well as actively participate in the CEEPUS Bioethics network (Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies).
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, aiming for academic excellence and integrity in research and teaching. He/she will have demonstrated ability to collaborate constructively in a responsible manner and inspire colleagues and students in an interdisciplinary, internationally oriented context.
The University of Graz is committed to increasing the proportion of female employees, especially in leadership roles. We therefore encourage qualified female colleagues in particular to apply for this position. In case of equal qualifications, women will receive priority consideration.
Planned dates of the applicant`s presentation: 10.03.2027 – 11.03.2027
