Qualifications

• Master's degree in physics and/or aerosol-related topics such as atmospheric sciences, aerosol chemistry, meteorology, or similar
• Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 or higher)
• Experience in programming (e.g., Python) to perform data analysis
• Affinity for practical laboratory work and regular presence on site in Vienna
• Willingness to travel for field campaigns including national and international stays
• Class B driving license
• Team player with good social/communication skills

Responsibilities

• Involved in unique research projects collaborating with top scientific institutions
• Study rarely-studied aerosol components at urban and remote sites within ACTRIS framework
• Set up, characterize, maintain and operate ACTRIS instruments (AE, Nephelometer, APS) for aerosol measurements
• Process, analyze and interpret aerosol data focusing on microphysical and optical properties
• Compare data between Vienna urban background and Sonnblick Observatory (remote atmosphere)
• Collaborate within VINAR, GeoSphere Austria and University of Vienna departments (FLEXPART modelling)
• Work on your dissertation and present your research plan within 12–18 months
• Conduct literature searches to locate relevant journal articles
• Contribute to teaching (lab courses, exercises) and handle administrative tasks
• Engage in outreach via publications, conference presentations and public activities
