The University of Vienna invites applications for a University assistant predoctoral in the Department of Contemporary History. Start date 01.11.2026, 30 hours per week, four-year tenure with initial 1.5-year contract.

You will contribute to research and teaching within the Chair’s remit. You will independently teach in Bachelor’s, Teacher Training and Master’s History programs, contribute to publications, organise events, and pursue further academic qualifications such as dissertations and

Qualifikationen

• A completed diploma or master's programme in History or Cultural Studies.
• Substantial knowledge of contemporary gender history or the history of knowledge, possibly via a strong MA thesis or publications.
• Dissertation proposal in contemporary cultural, knowledge or gender history with transnational/entangled approaches.
• Ability to communicate research findings to the general public.
• Very good command of German and English; a third language is desirable.
• IT skills, teamwork and organisational abilities.

Aufgaben

• Independently hold classes as part of History bachelor’s, teacher training and master’s programmes.
• Contribute to editing or publishing academic works and Chair activities.
• Participate in chair events, university administration and teaching organisation.
• Pursue further academic qualification (dissertation, publications, conference participation).
