Job summary

University of Vienna invites applications for a predoctoral university assistant in the Vienna Network for Atmospheric Research (VINAR). The four-year position focuses on experimental aerosol physics, in-situ measurements, and both laboratory and field work.

You will join the Aerosol Physics and Environmental Physics Group with Professor Bernadett Weinzierl in Vienna. The role entails characterizing aerosols at two observatories, coordinating ACTRIS instrumentation, data analysis, dissertation

Qualifications

• Master's degree (or equivalent) in physics and/or aerosol-related topics such as atmospheric sciences, aerosol chemistry, meteorology, or similar.
• Affinity for practical work; experience in experimental/technical work is desirable.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 or higher).
• Experience in programming (e.g., Python) to perform data analysis.
• Reliable, regular presence in the laboratory on site in Vienna.
• Willingness to travel for field campaigns (national and international).
• Team player with good social/communication skills; Class B driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Involved in unique research projects collaborating with top scientific institutions.
• Focus on aerosol components at urban and remote sites within ACTRIS and beyond.
• Set up, characterize, and operate ACTRIS instrumentation to measure aerosol properties.
• Characterize instruments, perform measurements, and analyze data for aerosol microphysical/optical properties.
• Compare data from Vienna and Sonnblick Observatory; collaborate with VINAR, GeoSphere Austria, and the Department of Meteorology and Geophysics at the University of Vienna.
• Contribute to teaching and assist with administrative tasks and outreach.
