The University of Vienna invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Journalism and Communication Studies within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The role focuses on building national and international data infrastructures for media, elections and democracy, with emphasis on automated content analysis and reproducibility.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in Political Science or Communication Studies (preferably with a focus on methods of automated content analysis)
• Several years of experience in management of quantitative social science data (survey, experimental, or text data)
• Publications in international peer‑reviewed journals or publications
• Excellent knowledge of computational social sciences
• Proficiency in R and Python for analysis
• Experience in science communication and knowledge transfer (teaching scientific methods)
• Experience in submitting project proposals and international projects
• Experience in establishing and developing research infrastructures (data pipelines, repositories)
• Knowledge of reproducibility and FAIR principles
• Experience in text/media data collection and processing (scraping, API)
• Teaching and supervision experience
• Excellent command of German and English

Aufgaben

• Contribute to development of MEDem data infrastructure and coordination
• Coordinate international research networks in political communication
• Organize data collection/ linking activities (panel surveys, content analyses, experiments)
• Standardize and develop content analysis methods (manual and automated)
• Publish and present internationally on media, elections, democracy
• Supervise student assistants and PhD supervision
• Teach courses independently per collective bargaining agreement
• Engage in Third Mission and science communication
• Participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance
• Participate in research, teaching and institute administration
