ETH Zurich invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the evolution of early prokaryotic life in geodynamic and climatic contexts. The project combines biology, geodynamics, climate and planetary habitability, with modelling and data analysis across disciplines.

The position is initially for 12 months and extendable up to 24 months, with scientific independence and opportunities for collaboration and career development within NCCR Genesis and ETH Zurich's biology and earth

Qualifikationen

• PhD in geobiology, biogeochemistry, Earth sciences, geodynamics, planetary science, computational biology, or closely related field.
• Strong interdisciplinary experience is desirable.
• Proven skills in quantitative research, computational modelling, data analysis, or related areas.
• Ability to work independently to formulate questions, develop hypotheses, and interpret results.
• Strong programming and data-analysis skills in Python, R, MATLAB, or similar languages.

Aufgaben

• Develop and implement interdisciplinary modelling approaches for prokaryotic evolution and geodynamics.
• Investigate carbon, nutrient cycling and atmospheric evolution during the Archean.
• Use geodynamic simulations to evaluate planetary conditions that influence evolution of metabolisms.
• Explore how biological evolution could alter planetary conditions and system trajectories.
• Communicate findings through publications and international conferences; collaborate with project partners.
