Job summary

Erste Digital GmbH in Austria seeks a Lead ETL Developer / Technical Architect to shape data platforms for Credit Risk at Erste Group. You will define end-to-end lakehouse architectures, lead data engineers, and deliver scalable Databricks-based solutions in a cloud-first environment.

You will collaborate with Risk, Data, and Business stakeholders to ensure trusted, governance-driven analytics capabilities while driving modernization, performance, and security across enterprise data platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale Lakehouse data platforms.
• Strong data modelling skills (Data Vault, Dimensional, Star Schemas).
• End-to-end delivery from requirements to production support.
• Led cross-functional teams using Scrum, Kanban, SAFe.
• Strong knowledge of data governance, lineage, and observability.

What to do:

The Lead ETL Developer / Technical Architect is responsible for the architecture, design, development, and operational excellence of enterprise-scale data platforms supporting Credit Risk and Risk Analytics within Erste Group – Credit Risk Methods. This role combines deep hands-on expertise in data engineering with technical leadership responsibilities, driving the delivery of scalable, high-performance data solutions using Databricks, Spark, and cloud-native technologies. The individual defines technical standards, leads development teams, and works closely with Risk, Data, and Business stakeholders to enable trusted, governed, and analytics-ready credit risk data.

Technical Architecture & Solution Design:

• Define and own end-to-end architecture for Credit Risk data platforms.
• Design scalable ETL/ELT solutions leveraging Databricks Lakehouse architecture.
• Establish architectural standards, frameworks, and reusable design patterns.
• Review and approve technical designs, data models, and integration approaches.
• Drive technology roadmaps and modernization initiatives.
• Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, resilience, and security requirements.

ETL & Data Engineering Leadership

• Lead development of large-scale ETL/ELT data pipelines across multiple source systems.
• Design and implement data ingestion frameworks for structured and semi-structured data.
• Develop high-performance Spark and Databricks solutions processing large volumes of banking risk data.
• Optimize data processing, storage, and compute performance.
• Establish development standards, coding practices, and engineering governance.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Support production issue resolution and root cause analysis.

Data Architecture & Modelling

• Design enterprise data models for Risk Analytics and Credit Risk domains.
• Implement Lakehouse architectures using Databricks and Delta Lake.
• Define data layers, ingestion zones, curation processes, and consumption models.
• Implement metadata management and data lineage frameworks.

• Databricks Champion with extensive experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale Lakehouse solutions and establishing engineering best practices.
• Strong Data Engineering and Data Modelling expertise, including Data Vault, Dimensional Modelling, Star Schemas, Canonical Data Models, and Lakehouse architectures.
• Proven experience in end-to-end solution delivery, covering requirements analysis, architecture, development, testing, deployment, productionisation, operational support, and continuous improvement.
• Strong Agile practitioner with experience leading cross-functional teams using Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe methodologies.
• Demonstrated Team Leadership capabilities, including technical mentoring, solution governance, stakeholder management, and delivery leadership.
• Advanced hands-on expertise across Azure, Databricks, GCP, AWS, and dbt.
• Expert in building scalable, resilient, and highly performant data platforms supporting Credit Risk Analytics and Enterprise Data initiatives.
• Strong understanding of data quality, data lineage, metadata management, data governance, and platform observability.
• Extensive experience designing and optimizing large-scale ETL/ELT frameworks using Spark, PySpark, SQL, Delta Lake, and cloud-native services.
• Proven ability to bridge business and technology teams, translating complex credit risk and analytics requirements into robust technical solutions across Erste Group.
