AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH in Vienna is seeking a skilled Ingenious Partner to maintain and advance our experimental research infrastructure for energy conversion and hydrogen technologies. You will work hands-on with PVD systems, characterization tools, and electrolyzer test stands, building new test environments and developing Python-based measurement software.

Qualifications

Completed technical degree (HTL, Fachhochschule, or equivalent).
Practical experience in building, operating and maintaining laboratory or industrial equipment is an advantage.
Experience in CAD design including 3D printing, manufacturing and mechanical engineering.
Solid Python programming skills with measurement automation, instrument control, data acquisition, or scientific data processing.
Basic understanding of electrochemical processes, thin-film technologies, or materials characterization methods is a plus, but enthusiasm and willingness to learn are valued.
Structured, reliable, independent working style with a hands-on mentality and troubleshooting complex systems.
Strong team orientation and good communication skills in an international research environment.
Very good command of English; German is an advantage for day-to-day communication.

Responsibilities

Maintain and operate our experimental infrastructure (PVD systems, materials characterization equipment, electrolyzer test stands).
Design and build up new experimental test stands with scientists and engineers.
Develop Python-based measurement and automation software, data acquisition routines, and instrument control interfaces.
Manage procurement of laboratory consumables, materials, and technical components with organized inventory.
Coordinate with external suppliers for equipment repairs, calibrations, and upgrades; maintain technical documentation.
Contribute to a safe, organized laboratory environment by adhering to safety regulations and onboarding new team members.
Work independently, bridging hands-on hardware with software-based solutions to resolve issues.
