Senior Project Manager - Biotech Capital Projects

Location: Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Employment Type: Contract

Experience: 5+ years

Our client is a leading international Biotechnology company with a state-of-the-art aseptic manufacturing facility in Dun Laoghaire, South Dublin. The plant is one of the most dynamic in Ireland and is currently undergoing rapid expansion and capital investment.

This is a Senior Project Manager position responsible for scoping, managing, and delivering projects up to €10m in value. You will run the projects with some strategic guidance from your manager/peers but have the ability to work independently for the most part.

It is crucial that the candidate has experience running projects for a pharmaceutical company (or similar), a design house, or a contractor. You will lead a multi-departmental team to execute the project, requiring strong soft skills to manage people, particularly when they are not direct reports.

Experience in construction and/or process equipment specification/qualification would be beneficial. Safety, Quality, and Compliance are our highest priorities in managing and performing work.

The Senior Project Manager will lead project teams and interact across functional and site department groups to achieve project objectives. These capital projects could include new builds, facilities/utilities system, equipment lifecycle replacements, upgrades, manufacturing improvements, and changes to support New Product Introductions.

With minimal guidance, you will lead all aspects of your project(s): Safety, planning, cost, schedule, risk, communications, resources, team dynamics and performance, implementation, monitoring, completion, and follow-up.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Project management and delivery of projects including project planning/scoping and execution, prioritization, resources management, status management, and external communication through the Engineering Project Delivery Process.
  2. Working with various stakeholders to scope projects and ensure requirements are satisfied.
  3. Managing expectations and communicating project progress and challenges to stakeholders.
  4. Developing and/or reviewing engineering technical specifications and bid documents for engineered equipment, materials engineering, and construction service contracts.
  5. Leading day-to-day design (where applicable) and construction management of project works, including procurement, installation, and commissioning.
  6. Providing engineering support for manufacturing processes and equipment within the manufacturing facility.
  7. Implementing and maintaining quality control processes to ensure installations and deliverables meet industry standards and client expectations.
  8. Strategic solution seeking to complex project phasing and execution issues.
  9. Coordinating the introduction of new equipment and driving the project team problem-solving process prior to qualification & start-up.
  10. Supporting team members in managing third-party contractors and outsourced partners to ensure optimal delivery against safety, cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
  11. Working with Project Controls to manage and report on the Capital Budget for the assigned project.
  12. Presenting projects to senior leadership for updates and approvals.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Relevant Experience

Typically, 5+ years project management/engineering experience, preferably in the biotechnology industry/aseptic pharmaceutical environment.

Proven project management experience from project inception through to handover.

Strong technical capability with hands-on experience in a technical role within a high-volume manufacturing environment is advantageous.

Demonstrated experience in a GDP Compliant environment.

Proven ability to work cross-functionally, delivering technical solutions and implementing improvements.

Solid leadership skillset and experience working in a team environment.

Technical report writing and communication/presentation skills.

Ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-moving environment.

Package:

Minimum 12-month contract with the possibility of an extension.
