Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Research Scientist in Organic Chemistry to lead complex synthetic projects at our Sandton R&D center. You will drive discovery and development of novel organic molecules and mentor junior chemists.

The ideal candidate has a PhD in Organic Chemistry with 5–7 years of relevant experience, strong reaction mechanism expertise, and proven problem-solving and communication skills to advance the company's innovative pipeline.

Qualifications

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or a related field.
• 5–7 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Experience with advanced spectroscopic methods for structure elucidation.
• Strong problem-solving and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute complex synthetic routes for novel organic molecules.
• Optimize reaction conditions and scalable procedures.
• Purify and characterize compounds using NMR, MS, IR and chromatography.
• Interpret data, troubleshoot challenges, and propose alternatives.
• Mentor junior organic chemists and contribute to IP and publications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a cutting-edge R&D center.
