Responsibilities

This role involves long-term planning and analysis to ensure the grid's capacity, reliability, and efficiency can meet future energy demands, integrating new generation sources and technologies. You will play a key role in developing strategic plans that support the energy transition and enhance grid resilience. This position offers a significant opportunity to influence the direction of the national power infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct long-term transmission and distribution grid expansion studies, forecasting future load growth and generation capacity needs.
Perform power flow, stability, and contingency analyses to assess grid performance and identify potential bottlenecks or weaknesses.
Develop strategic grid reinforcement and upgrade plans, considering the integration of renewable energy sources and emerging technologies.
Collaborate with generation developers, distribution networks, and regulatory bodies to align planning initiatives with broader energy sector goals.
Evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of proposed grid infrastructure investments and projects.
Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management and stakeholders regarding grid planning strategies.

Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.
Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in power system planning and grid analysis.
Expertise in using power system planning software (e.g., PSS/E, PowerFactory, UPLAN).
Strong understanding of power system fundamentals, transmission and distribution network design, and protection principles.
Experience with renewable energy integration studies and smart grid technologies.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly in Sandton .
